About this book
Creators: James D. Richardson (1843-1914) [Editor] "A Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents. Volume 6, part 1" compiled by James D. Richardson is a historical document collection published between 1897 and 1911. This volume preserves Abraham Lincoln's presidential proclamations, messages, and speeches from March 1861 to April 1865. Part of an eleven-volume series spanning 1787 to 1902, it captures the official words of America's sixteenth president during the nation's most turbulent period. The compilation itself sparked the Richardson Affair, a political controversy over copyrighting public documents that changed federal law. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
