About this book
Creators: Mikhail Evgrafovich Saltykov (1826-1889) and Avrahm Yarmolinsky (1890-1975) [Translator] "A Family of Noblemen" by Mikhail Evgrafovich Saltykov is a novel written between 1875 and 1880. The story follows the Golovlyov family, a declining Russian noble household ruled by the formidable matriarch Arina Petrovna. Her children include the squandering Stepan, the manipulative Porfiry nicknamed "Little Judas," and the passive Pavel. As the family estate crumbles and relationships deteriorate, this chronicle reveals the moral decay and tragic fate of the landed gentry in a changing Russia.
