About this book
Creators: Elias Lönnrot (1802-1884) [Compiler] and John Martin Crawford (1845-1916) [Translator] "Kalevala : the Epic Poem of Finland — Complete" by Lönnrot and Crawford is a compilation of epic poetry published in 1849. Compiled from Finnish, Karelian, and Ingrian folklore, it tells of Earth's creation and the conflicts between the lands of Kalevala and Pohjola. At its center lies the Sampo, a mythical wealth-making machine that becomes the object of construction and theft. This national epic helped shape Finnish identity and influenced writers like Tolkien, becoming one of Finland's most significant literary works. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
