About this book
Creators: de Lorris Guillaume and de Meun Jean (1240?-1305?) "Le roman de la rose - Tome II" by Guillaume de Lorris and Jean de Meun is a medieval French allegorical poem written in two parts between 1230-1269. This second tome continues the dream-vision quest for a symbolic rose representing the beloved. Jean de Meun dramatically expands the original work, transforming courtly romance into philosophical discourse. Through allegorical characters, the text explores love, desire, and social customs while satirizing religious hypocrisy and challenging ideals of nobility and courtship with unexpected cynicism.
