About this book
Creators: Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890) [Translator] "The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night — Volume 02 (of 10)" by Richard Francis Burton is a translation published in 1888. Burton's ten-volume work presents the first complete, unexpurgated English translation of the Arabian Nights tales. This controversial edition includes extensive footnotes on Oriental culture and sexuality, printed privately to avoid Victorian obscenity laws. Burton's archaic language and bold approach sparked both admiration and criticism, including plagiarism accusations from fellow translator John Payne. The translation remains notable for its scholarly ambition and unflinching treatment of the original texts' adult content. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
