About this book
Creators: Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890) [Translator] "The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night — Volume 04 (of 10)" by Richard Francis Burton is a translation published in 1888. This fourth volume continues Burton's complete, unexpurgated rendering of the Arabian Nights tales from the Islamic Golden Age. Burton's controversial work preserves the sexual content of the original stories through plain, literal translation, accompanied by his extensive scholarly notes on Eastern customs and sexuality. Published privately to circumvent Victorian obscenity laws, this translation remains both celebrated for its completeness and criticized for its archaic style and obsessive focus on erotic material.
